Here are some tips to make everyone more
comfortable and relaxed
on their long road trips with your child.
:
Provide games or activities to keep them
entertained.
A in car DVD player works like magic. Pack up
their favorite DVDs or rent or buy a new pair
for the trip. Other ways to keep the little ones amused is to extract
some new (non-noisy) age appropriate toys that can be used in the car.
Spread them out as surprises for longer journeys.
Provide plenty of healthy snacks
and juice
Stopping every hour to buy food or drinks, can be
expensive and make the trip take a whole lot longer. Make sure
you put a cooler with juice and fun snacks to
nibble on along the way. Providing handy snacks
for your toddler saves time, money and a lot
of unnecessary whining.
Tell your Child ahead of
time about the trip
Talk to your child about taking the trip
by showing them pictures of where
yoru going and explain to
them how long it takes to get there. Put the
time in terms they will understand . For example, "we will
be at Aunt Dee's house
in 2 sleeps".
You can show them a map and keep your
child updated with a colored marker by showing them
where you are at.
Keep them from getting Car sick
Try to have them look out the window
to help prevent motion sickness.
Playing games like "I spy" will help engage your child with
what's going on outside. This will
help your child from getting nausious
Providing frequent snacks and staying
hydrated will also help. If your child gets really
carsick, you may need to talk to your doctor
before going on the long car trip.
Drive While your Toddler Sleeps
A great way to help shorten the long road trip for
your child is to schedule trips during your child's nap or
sleep schedule. Be sure to bring their
favorite blanket or plush animal to help them feel
more at home. It'll will help time pass
much quicker for them and will be down time
for you. Some parents even plan long car trips
for overnight. Be sure you take turns resting with
your spouse, so not everyone is sleeping at the same time, especially
the driver.
Stop to Stretch
Stop at places where your child can run around and
get some exercise to help burn
unused energy. Take your
lunch to an outside park instead of going to a sit down
restaurants. This will help
your child feel less anxious and let you enjoy your drive.
Going on long car trips can help the family
bond and can be a good learning experience for
you and your children. Try to be lax on the schedules
and not worry about getting to placed on a
scheduled time.
We hope these tips will help you plan
better for your next long car trip with your child.
