Bringing home your newborn baby is an exciting yet
scary time as a new parent. The first few weeks at home can be
very stressful, if your not
prepared.. You can prevent that overwhelmed feeling with some
basic preparation before the baby arrives.
Plan Ahead
Once your new baby is home,
there will be lots of family and friends
that will want to see your new baby. While
you certainly want to share your blessings with others, you should
be sure to keep these visits short by telling
visitors in advance what your preferences are.
Prepare the younger sibling
If you've children at home, they need to be prepared
for bringing the new baby home. Get books from your local library about
new babies and what to expect. You should
include them as much as possible of what's happening.
Also, you may want to have small gifts wrapped
and ready to give your children when
others get gifts for the new baby. This can help prevent jealousy over
the new baby. Also,
consider giving your child a certain "job", that is just
for them, making them feel
special
Prepare for meals
Make-up more frozen meals, so your family can just thaw
and cook in the oven. Don't hesitate to ask
those close to you to help by bringing in a meal. This is a good time to
put away some extra cash so you can bring in take out
for the first week or so. You will need
to spend time resting, not cooking.
Have all the Needed Baby Items in Stock
Before giving birth, make sure everything you
need for your baby. You will need to have
plenty of diapers, baby formula, pillows, medical & other
baby supplies.. Have the
diaper changing stations stocked with newborn
diapers, wipes, onsies and other items you need. Keep everything
within a arms length reach. It's a
good idea to have a small basket with everything you need to
change the baby in different rooms, living
room. Very good idea if you live in a house of
2 stories. This will save you lots of trips up and
down stairs.
Being prepared before the baby comes,
your first weeks at home can be a lot easier
for both you and your child. Planning ahead
can help you feel more relaxed and prepared when
bringing your new baby home.
